The northwest-southeast-trending Olympic-Wallowa Line across southern Washington state is a structural zone that includes active earthquake faults. This trend was first described from aerial photographs by Erwin Raisz (1939). Other northwest-trending alignments to the southeast, west of the central Rocky Mountains, perhaps are related geologically to this feature.
